A Los Angeles-based composer, orchestrator, conductor, and educator, Thomas has earned a reputation as a fast, reliable musician with powerful, evocative music. He is well-versed in writing in orchestral and jazz mediums for film, television, and video games with scores ranging across the entire dramatic spectrum. Thomas has received commissions from the American Festival Pops Orchestra, the Manassas, VA Police Department, and Brigham Young University–Idaho, and Jazz 4 Justice.
His film credits include independent productions GeoFORCE, HeartFelt, Return of the Dragon Sword, and A Sense of Sound, amongst other smaller film and video game projects. He has produced three concerts of his original music, including Emerge & Ascend, a benefit concert that raised $1500. He has also acted as conductor in a number of studio recording sessions.
Thomas received his Masters of Music in Film Scoring from the Pacific Northwest Film Scoring Program in Seattle, Washington where he studied with two-time Emmy winning film and television composer Hummie Mann. He received his Bachelor of Music in Composition from George Mason University where he studied composition under band composer Mark Camphouse and electronic composer Jesse Guessford, and conducting under Anthony Maiello. In the area of performance, he has studied saxophone under Rick Parrell (U.S. Army Band), Tyler Kuebler (USAF Airmen of Note), and Sandon Mayhew; and piano with John Healey and Danny Beal.
Originally from Boise, Idaho, Thomas currently resides in Los Angeles. A melodious and colorful composer, he hopes to continue bringing evocative, contemporary music to audiences everywhere.

James is a member of BMI, The Dramatist Guild of America, The American Composers Forum, and The Playwrights Center. He is also the Executive Director of the Laity Institute of the Arts, a Private Arts Foundation. James has written four musicals, four plays, three screenplays and directed several plays and two films. He learned to hone his skills in musical theatre through New Musicals Inc.
James studied music under Emmy Award winning and Academy Award nominated composers such as Gerald Fried (Roots, Roots: The Next Generation, Star Trek, Napoleon and Josephine) Thom Sharp (When Harry Met Sally, City Slickers, Aladdin, Little Mermaid) Jerry Grant (Quantum Leap, Hired to Kill, Hunter) and composition under Dr. Russell Steinberg one of America's leading Neo-Classical composers and performers. James has been directly or indirectly involved in the entertainment industry for over 30 years.
James holds BA in Theatre from California State University Dominguez Hills where he met his wife, Delayna Goins. Later he attended UCLA where he received his Teaching Credential and completed his training in Film Scoring from UCLA's Film Scoring program. He holds an Executive MBA from Grand Canyon University.
